Hello, this is your friendly neighborhood editor, Seth C, welcoming you to the first edition of the Dreamcast Extreme Letters section. This page will be updated... well, whenever we get enough letters to post! So, get to work writing us at sethc@se-tel.com and we'll post all of the best ones right here. Now, on to the letters...

• I read Ms. Muldoon's "editorial". In short, it's damn frightening that Videogames.com (a site I have never visited before) would permit this level of gross ignorance to appear on its electronic pages. They should be embarassed and apoloigize to the gamers who click on their site for actual information and informed opinion.

  By the way, good work on your site. I''ve been checking it daily for several months now, and it's always concise (yeah!) and informative.

  I'll leave you with one of my many thoughts on the PS-Y (or whatever they're calling it this week) and it's seemingly large number of uninformed supports -- let me know when there is a power button and a game to buy...until then, shut the hell up.

• I will agree with you that Sega is not dead. But your argument on why no one would buy a PS2 is ridiculous. To assume that the first Playstation will run out of software support like before the PS2 is released (like the Saturn lost support before Dreamcast) is unrealistic. The fact that most developers won't be able to compete with giants like Square and Namco (in graphics) will just make them create NEW games for the original Playstation. Then they will gradually, and at their own pace, start making games for the PS2. Also you stated that, "No one has ever bought hardware to play games that they can ( and have been ) already playing on a system they already own." Well, first off, no system has ever offered something like this. Also its not just the games that are backwards compatible, its the games, controllers, memory cards, etc.,etc.,....... You are also assuming that there will be no new games, that is, "just not proper logic." Don't think that I am a Sony loving Sega hater (I plan to get a Dreamcast), this is just what is right.

  Just so there is no confusion, I wasn't trying to say that the PSX2 wouldn't have good qualities, or even that being backward compatible wasn't one of them. Remember, we run a Dreamcast site, we aren't here to point out the good qualities about the PlayStation 2, but pointing out errors in a major videogame site's article concerning Dreamcast would certainly be something we need to do. We're here to keep you accurately informed concerning the Dreamcast.

• Your column on PSX2 backwards compatability - EXACTLY! I reckon it's going to be more of a problem then a solution for Sony.

  PSX2 is going to end up with loads of PlayStation 1 games that are still being developed / released, loads of sub-standard games that can't really take advantage of the hardware and a few stunning games from the big, BIG! developers that have the money to actually code properly for the machine - and they'll make all the other games available for it look like crap. Sounds like a mess to me. Sounds like all the worst bits of all the software release programmes of all the last generation of consoles -- N64's lack of great games and PlayStation's glut of sub-standard ones all rolled into one.

  Dreamcast is not only cutting-edge, it's APPROPRIATE technology -- high-spec, low price, modular. Nuff said.

  Wow, the next e-zine.... tough call. It was actually being worked on ages ago, but due to various problems was never finished. First things first though, we need to get the site in general back to tip-top shape. I'll let you know about the e-zine after that. Thanks for the interest.

• Wasn't that one of the worst articles you've ever read? I was so disgusted with it I actually wasted the time to send her an email letter. I say wasted because it will do no good. I published the letter over on Dreamcast-HQ. But I wanted to let you know as another fansite journalist I am right beside you on this one. It was inaccurate, and at times, unprofessional (she referred to the Sega Rally Online play as a "Ha!", so mature is that?). Just thought I'd share my thoughts with you. Great heads-up on that.
